Positions for small breasted women

Do you have an opinion on the best nursing positions for small-breasted women? I have trouble with the side-lying position...it's like I don't have enough breast to lay on the bed and have to prop myself up, if that makes sense. Football hold is also difficult, as I feel I have to bring baby so far up just to get the breast. Cross cradle and cradle work best, just wondering if there was anything else available, especially one that would let my baby (8.5 months)look around while nursing. I know this is a weird question to ask, given the age of my baby...just looking for a way to keep things fresh! Seems like my baby is less interested in nursing these days and much more distracted.

Answer from the lactation consultant

You issue is not your breast size or positioning. If you have made it almost 9 months, you are good at positioning, latch ect. It is simply the developmental stage your baby is going through. I went through it with both kids around that age.

What I had to do and what I recommend is to nurse the child in a quiet room, lights dimmed, reduced stimuli. This was a challenge with #2, her sister was constantly running around distracting her. But we made it through. It lasted for about 4 weeks then she became extremely "focused" during feedings. Unfortunately, I did not know any better with my first daughter and this was when she weaned.

Reduce stimuli, find a routine, like going to a certain chair to feed. And lastly, just dont quit. Keep offering and it will pass.
